Festival Fit

Summer Music Festivals are here, and we all want that hot summer and festi bod! Are you ready to rough it out for a few days while feeling and looking great? It’s not an easy task. Festivals (especially in the summertime) require a lot from our bodies and most of us feel totally drained when they are over. Get ready physically and mentally with these tips for the bod you want and the stamina you need!

1. Sleep

You probably won’t be doing a whole lot of sleeping at a music festival. After all, you are having the time of your life why waste these precious moments asleep? Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night prior to leaving. If you can, try to get even more than that the night before the activities begin. You will be rested and ready to take on the next few days.

-Bring some ear plugs to wear at night when your trying to catch some zzz’s!

-A battery powered fan will keep you cool and may help you sleep better.

2. Water

Drink up! Staying hydrated is important for every day life and especially when you will be spending a lot of time in the heat. Last thing you want to do is be dehydrated. Get your body ready to take on the heat and hangovers. According to the Mayo Clinic, even mild hydration can make you tired and drain your energy. They suggest men drink 13 cups of water a day, and women drink 9 cups.

Coconut water is a great way to stay hydrated as well, not to mention it contains more potassium than 4 bananas, has less sugar than the majority of sport drinks and is known to cure hangovers and even kidney stones. Those are just to name a few, basically you would be doing your body an amazing good to incorporate coconut water into your everyday diet (especially before, during and after a festival).

If you don’t care for the taste of coconut water (I don’t) just add some of it to your regular water throughout the day. This will dilute the taste some but you will still get the benefits. 🙂

3. Hot Yoga

There is no better way to prepare your body for harsh conditions than flowing from one yoga pose to the next in a room that ranges from 90 to 105º F with a humidity of about 40%. I know, your thinking why would I do that to myself? The first few classes are brutal, you may not be able to keep up and you will probably want to walk out or throw up. Don’t give up, because once you break the mental barrier, the benefits are there for you to savor mentally, physically and emotionally.
